About The Archive
The Archive is an open-source conflict intelligence platform dedicated to documenting and analyzing the Ukraine-Russia war through comprehensive, georeferenced data. Our mission is to provide researchers, journalists, policymakers, and the public with accessible, verified conflict data.
Our Expertise
This platform is maintained under the editorial guidance of Prof. Taras Kuzio, a leading scholar on Ukrainian politics, nationalism, and security affairs. With decades of academic research on Ukraine-Russia relations, Prof. Kuzio brings deep domain expertise to the interpretation and contextualization of conflict data.
Data Integrity
All conflict event data is sourced from the VIINA (Violent Incident Information from News Articles) dataset maintained by Georgetown University. Equipment loss data is compiled from Armed Forces of Ukraine General Staff daily reports, validated by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Missile attack data comes from Ukrainian Air Force Command official reports.
Academic Foundation
The VIINA dataset, our primary data source, is a peer-reviewed academic project published in the Journal of Comparative Economics (2023). It is maintained by Associate Professor Yuri Zhukov at Georgetown University and processes conflict reports from multiple independent news sources every 6 hours.
